After classical piano studies and his graduation on the Jazz department of the Konservatorium der Stadt Wien (teacher: Fritz Pauer) Erwin Schmidt is one of the most asked piano players.

Besides teaching, leading theatre productions, concerts and Tours with i.e. Kleinschuster-Bigband, Valery Ponomarev, Mark Murphy, Lew Tabackin, Toninho Horta, John Allread, Ed Thiegpen, Clark Terry, Ingrid Jensen, Kevin Mahagony, Ray Charles a.m.m…he founded 1999 the Erwin Schmidt-Trio with Joschi Schneeberger on bass and Walther Großrubatscher on drums.

The recordings remind us of Duke Ellington with Jimmy Blanton und Sonny Greer, or of Bill Evans with Scott Lafaro und Paul Motion, but the trio does it clearly his own way!
