Dies ist das 8te Album unter eigenen Namen.
“Rens Newland ist - sicher in Europa- einer der Pioniere des Fusionjazz! (in den frühen Siebziger schrieb er in Holland - und Deutschland-Geschichte mit der Gruppe SCOPE, dann in den 80er in Österreich mit OSTINATO) Hier präsentiert er einen neuen Zugang: mit seinen jüngeren Mitmusikern aus der Tiroler Szene, Wolfi Rainer auf Drums und Andy Mayerl am Kontrabass, spielt er hauptsächlich die akustische Stahlseitengitarre, wobei eine großartige Spannung zwischen diesem zarten Instrument und dem groovigen, fetten Rhythmus entsteht (auf einigen Titel verwendet er seine crunchy Jazzgitarre, aber auch mit starkem akustischen Anteil). Es entsteht, was er “bluesy acoustic fusion” nennt. Das Konzept steht symbolisch für das Bringen von Farbe in eine eher graue Welt.”

GeeBeeDee Trio “AlgoRhythm”

Being one of the pioneers and masters of fusion jazz, Rens Newland presents here kind of a new approach: with his younger fellow musicians, Wolfi Rainer on light drums and Andy Mayerl on upright bass, he comes up with what he calls “bluesy acoustic fusion”. Liner notes of the artist: „Algorhythm is about trying to bring colour into a grey world. Music is a good instrument for that. In the most songs I use the acoustic steel string guitar to get these high shining overtones, for the rest of the tunes my crunchy electric jazz-guitar. Andy Mayerl is bottoming with his wonderful, big upright bass, Wolfi Rainer is flowing and grooving with his creative drums.“ Important for the trio was, that the recordings sound natural in any aspect, as the tunes were token from live-in-studio sessions, where interaction, emotion, dynamics and surprises still have their meaning. The tension between the sensible, but yet strong, groovy drums and the dainty acoustic guitar gives the tracks this special touch! The compositions are mainly new and special made for this project, but also some older tunes of the more than thousand works of the bandleader, that waited impatently to be recorded, are on the album, like Clouds Over Vienna and Amsterdam CS (both performed oftentimes, but originally from his Rens Newland Circus project-with Klaus Dickbauer a.o.), and Betty‘s Bob from his Jazzzone project. Look Like Kool is a very new one, that also happens to come out on a recent OSTINATO album.
